Literacy Week @ Burnaby Mountain

Found Poetry

Poetry can be found anywhere! Found poems take existing texts and refashion them, reorder them, and present them as poems.

Looking at a page or a chapter or a whole text, pull random words or phrases out and create something new.   For example, you could challenge your students to write a found poem representing your subject area (words from textbooks, posters hanging around your room…) and share out. Or you could take the kids outside for a walk and have them take notes of visuals around them and create found poetry there. Tone can be humorous or serious.

Remember to take a picture of your class completing the activity or of some samples and submit to the “Literacy Week” channel in the Staff Team for a chance to win prizes!
