Age of Exploration Project

Our class’s assignment was to create a brochure and project to be put into a North American Exploration wing in the Smithsonian Museum. My partner Lois and I did our project on Ferdinand Magellan.

Magellan was a great navigator in the early 1500’s. His most renowned voyage was a westward trip around the tip South America towards Asia. His mission was to find a new route to Southeast Asia for Spain since they could not go through the Indian Ocean because of the treaty of Tordesillas. Even though Magellan died when he and his crew got into a local war in the Philippines, they still succeeded in discovering a new passage to Asia for Spain, proved that the world was round, and became the first people to circumnavigate (go around) the world.

This is the informational brochure we made for our explorer:

This is a picture of our project; a diary page written by one of the sailors named Antonio Pigafetta who was aboard the voyage and kept journals for the whole trip:20170305_212210
